Intake Manifold Swirl Motor Failure
Moderate Issue - Service When Convenient
About This Issue
The intake manifold swirl flap actuator motor can fail, causing check engine lights and reduced performance. Common on OM642 engines.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Check engine light
- Reduced power
- P2004 or P2006 codes
- Poor throttle response
Solution
Replace the swirl motor actuator. Some owners choose to delete the swirl flaps and install a resistor to prevent codes.
Prevention
No proven prevention. Issue is related to motor wear over time.
